Wyoming's Water
Wyoming is situated astride the Continental Divide, and as a result provides the headwaters for four (4) major river basins in the western United States. These include the Missouri-Mississippi, Green-Colorado, Snake-Columbia, and the Great Salt Lake.
More than 75 percent of Wyoming's population relies on groundwater for part, or all, of our drinking water supply. This water comes from more than 90,000 wells.
What is the largest lake in Wyoming? Yellowstone Lake sits at 7,732 feet above sea level and covers 136 square miles with 110 miles of shoreline.
What is the deepest lake in Wyoming? Fremont Lake, just a few short miles from our Pinedale office, is the 7th deepest lake in the country and last measured was 610 feet deep.
Wyoming is the 5th driest state and drought is a constant threat in our region.
Seven (7) of the ten (10) largest glaciers in the continental United States are located in the Wind River Range.
